Take a Veteran to School Day 2010
Our Mission
In 2010, West Virginia’s Take a Veteran to School Day (TAVTS) program will return to high schools throughout the state. The program provides an unparalleled opportunity for students and educators to learn about our nation’s history through the firsthand accounts of veterans from their local communities. The West Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association launched the program – created by the History Channel – in 2008 in collaboration with Senator Jay Rockefeller and with the support of several veterans’ organizations. Since the program’s inception, TAVTS has helped recognize and thank veterans around the Mountain State for their service, bravery and sacrifice to our great nation. In addition, university students have helped to preserve the histories of West Virginia’s veterans by recording their stories for submission to the Library of Congress’ Veteran’s History Project.
