This fall West Virginia’s Take a Veteran to School Day program will return for its 5th consecutive year to high schools throughout the state. (Please check back for the 2012 participating schools.) The program provides an unparalleled opportunity for students and educators to learn about our nation’s history through the firsthand accounts of veterans in their local communities. The West Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association launched the program – created by the HISTORY® channel – in 2008 in collaboration with Senator Jay Rockefeller and with the support of several veterans’ organizations. Since its inception, the Take a Veteran to School Day program has helped recognize and thank veterans around the Mountain State for their service, bravery and sacrifice to our great nation. In addition, university students have helped to preserve the histories of West Virginia’s veterans by recording their stories for submission to the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project.
