HUNTINGTON — Several military veterans visited Huntington High School Thursday as part of the national “Take a Veteran to School Day” program.

Huntington High was one of the 13 schools in West Virginia to participate in the program, according to a release. The program provides students and teachers first-hand accounts of wartime experiences from a broad range of conflicts.

Among the veterans who participated were Dewew J. Turley, World War II; Ben Geyer, Desert Storm; Siobhan Manier, Iraq; Scottie King, Vietnam; and Clint Bowen.

Take a Veteran to School Day was created by the History Channel to teach today’s youth about the sacrifice and valor of United States veterans.

College students from Concord University also accompanied veterans on their trips to record their stories for the Library of Congress’s Veterans History Project.

The program started Nov. 9 and continues through Nov. 19.
