Woodrow Wilson High School will be one of 12 West Virginia high schools hosting
Take a Veteran to School Day on Thursday.
WWHS principal Bob Maynard said the event will get under way at 9 a.m. in the
school cafeteria.
Guests will include the following veterans: A.K. Minter, World War II; Lou Tyree
and Marlene Middleton, Gulf War; Ed Gadle, Vietnam War, and George Wiedensall,
Korean War.
Sponsored by the West Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association (WVCTA),
veterans representing all conflicts will talk to high school students about
their real-life war experiences in efforts to preserve their stories as part of
American history.
The WVCTA, led by the local cable operator, Suddenlink Communications, sparked
the idea of bringing veterans into high schools and using broadband capabilities
to record their histories as part of the Library of Congress’ Veterans History
Project.
“I am proud that Suddenlink has chosen Woodrow Wilson as one of the schools for
the Take a Veteran to School Day program,” Maynard said. “It is important for
our students to know the veterans in our community, and this program promises to
do just that.”
Suddenlink Director of Operations Jack Ozminkowski will MC the event.
Similar events are planned in Bluefield, Charleston, Clarksburg, Fairmont,
Huntington, Logan, Martinsburg, Morgantown, Parkersburg, Weirton and Wheeling.
