Take a Vet to School Day

About

The Mission of the Take a Vet to School Day Program

Through the Take a Veteran to School Day (TAV) program, veterans share their personal wartime experiences with students and educators. Students are encouraged to get to know the veterans in their local communities in order to better understand the importance of their sacrifices. The TAV programbrings together veterans from World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, the Afghanistan Conflict and Operation: Iraqi Freedom with schools, elected officials and other members of the local community.

In addition to West Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association efforts, high school students and students from the West Virginia University School of Journalism, Concord University’s Oral History class and Glenville State College are recording veterans’ histories for submission to the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project. As the veterans’ stories are catalogued, they are preserved for generations to come.
