Through the Take a Veteran to School Day (TAVTS) program, veterans share their personal wartime experiences with students and educators. Students are encouraged to get to know the veterans in their local communities in order to better understand the importance of their sacrifices. The TAVTS program brings together veterans from World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, the Afghanistan Conflict and Operation: Iraqi Freedom.
In addition to West Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association efforts, students from the West Virginia University School of Journalism and Concord University's Oral History class recorded veterans’ histories for submission in the Library of Congress' Veterans History Project. As the veterans’ stories are catalogued, they are preserved for generations to come.
